When you rent a film on Video Store, playback of the title (and any supplemental materials) is powered by Vimeo. The first time you rent content on Video Store, you’ll be asked to connect your Letterboxd account with Vimeo.
Vimeo is a trusted partner and needs access to some details of your Letterboxd account to ensure the rental process runs smoothly between our two services. The modal confirmation dialog pop-up you see when connecting your account is a one-time connection request to link your Letterboxd account to Vimeo’s system for authentication purposes. Once connected, Vimeo can see (but not change) your Letterboxd user identifier and your email address (necessary for the delivery of rental receipts).
You do not need, nor may you use, an existing Vimeo account with Video Store (a new account is created behind the scenes for the sole purpose of handling transactions and providing access to rented content). By connecting your Letterboxd account with Vimeo, you’re allowing both parties to stay in sync.
